Queen Annes and triple-deckers
The area mixes large Queen Anne and Victorian houses with many triple-deckers and some brick apartment buildings. Older houses often keep original rim or mortise locks on inner doors, with modern deadbolts on the outside doors.

- Business lock repairs along Dorchester Avenue
- Lockouts from front doors that latch themselves
Keep the character, add the security
You don't have to rip out a beautiful original mortise lock. Keep it for looks and daily latching, and let a separate modern deadbolt carry the real security. The door keeps its period character without depending on century-old parts.
Spring-latch front doors
Many front doors here lock themselves with a spring latch whenever they close. Convenient, until the keys are inside. A keypad deadbolt or a spare with a neighbor solves most of these calls before they happen.
Meeting the locksmith
Most streets have parking. Lower Mills and Ashmont sit near the Red Line and the Mattapan trolley if you need to meet somewhere else.
Lower Mills and Melville Park
Lower Mills has converted mill buildings with loft-style apartments, while Melville Park's grand Victorians often have several porches and side doors. In the lofts, unit doors may be heavy and non-standard, so photos help the dispatcher. In the big houses, walk the whole ground floor and count keyed doors before booking a rekey; most owners undercount by two or three. A whole-house rekey done in one visit almost always works out cheaper than doing doors one at a time.
